In the struggle for power between Jack and Ralph, what advantages does Jack have? Ralph?

Jack and Ralph had advantages of gaining power. Jacks advantage was the fear. He intimidated the boys by making fun of them and making them feel weak. I believe that the weak ones often look for strong leaders, so that’s why Jack was trying to look tough. With Jacks fear, everyone might follow everything he says because Jack possibly will do something scary and hurtful, like the kid who was beaten up for no reason. Ralph was nice and kind, that was his advantage. He let people talk and express their feelings. I see Ralph’s reign as peaceful because he didn’t punish anybody and he resisted to any complaints made by the littluns.

I agree with Ahra. They both had opposite advantages that make them different. Jack had one major advantage though, savagery. All the boys eventually sought to it because it was in them. They all wanted meat, Jack hunted. He met their expectations and did what he wanted not what was correct. Ralph wanted to stay civil and be rescued. He did not believe in the things the others did.

Both Jack and Ralph had very different ways and advantages of getting power. Jack has the advantage of his indifference and carelessness of life. This makes him a ruthless leader where others would fail. Ralph, though, has a more persuasive and subtle way of gaining power and he has logic and reason where savagery fails him.

Jack is a boy who grabs whatever power he gets, he is portrayed as a fierce character to the little ones, so he does have that as a plus point. The kids might think 'Oh wow, look at Jack he's so tough,' and so on, also Jack promises food, and feasts, and fun. Lets face it...they're still kids, they want to have fun and be protected.
However Ralph might be seen as more comforting, he has plans. He says what has to be done, and such. He tries to get them rescued.

Both Jack and Ralph had different advantages and ways of gaining power.
Ralph gained power by portraying confidence in his speeches and using his mind.
Jack gained power by using force and threats.

The advantages of Ralph having power were that first of all, Ralph had the conch which ment law and order. The other thing is that Ralph was originally their leader because they had voted for him in the beginning of the book. Ralph showed confidence in himself which made all the little kids look up at him as someone that they could trust. Ralph also has Piggy alongside him all the time which helps him make the right decisions since Piggy is all about sicence and knowledge.
Jack had the hunters beside him even though he didn't have Piggy. He could control everyone around him and he was also the leader of his hunter boys. Jack had also the determination for power, which ment that no matter what, he would do anything to have total power.
The disadvantages that Ralph had as a leader was that he was too focused on being rescued and the fire. Also, towards the end of the book, Ralph begins to loose most of the boys. Piggy slowly looses all his strenghts like intelligence and science, when they take away his glasses.
The disadvantages that Jack had a really strong desire for power. Later in the book, he soon becomes obsessed with hunting and only focuses on that task. He also let all the boys in his group do all the work.

I agree with Fabi. Jack gained power by giving confident speeches and makind decisions as a group. His advantage was that he made sure that it contained parts by everyone and with his power he made sure that he could be rescued which was his sole purpose and survival.
Jack gained power by threatening, violence and shaming his opposition by hiting their weak parts. He wanted power just forhimself instead of Ralph who wanted everyone to be part of the community. Jack simply likes being above the rest because everyone else is weeaker.

In the struggle for power between Jack and Ralph, Jack had some advantages while Ralph had some too. First of all, Jack would use any ways in order to gain power and convince the little kids. He would convince the little kids with meat, feasts, and a lot of playing time. On the other hand, Ralph has already made plans in order to be rescued and knows what he should do. Ralph is more of a working guy who wants things done in order to get rescued. Ralph has advantages over the working people while Jack has advantages of the little kids. These advantages between Jack and Ralph are the struggles for power.

I disagree with Jesica when she mentions that Jack would decide as a group. I see it as him making all the things he wants to do and not do. That's why he goes against Ralph for the things he does not want to do. So the things he does is that he has the things he wants to do and does it as a whole group. Probably Ralph will decide as a group in some occasions, but not many because he will be the one who makes the decisions. These are the reasons I contradict to Jesica's statement.

Jack has the overwhelming power of manipulating the boys in the group into believing what he wants. Jack also has the respect of the group when it comes to hunting and the group believe that he is a great leader. Ralph on the other hand has the power of democracy. He lets the boys voices be heard. Ralph has the conch which is an accesory that gets attention of the boys and gains their respect.

In the struggle of power, both have advantages of their own, and using each other. Some advantages of Jack are; First, he is able to manipulate the littluns and most of the boys by telling him his side is funner and has meat. He also manipulates them by telling them if they don't come he will hunt them down and kill them. Another way of advantage Jack has is that on the time he was not leader, he was able to see all the strategies that Ralph used to keep the boys organized and not worried. Like that Jack was able to obserb the way Ralph control the boys, so he made them better. Ralph's advantages were to keep things organized, with hope , conch shell and rules.

Ralph and Jack both have advantages.
I wil start with Ralph. Ralph has appearance, and the support of the littluns. Thats about it.
Jack however, has ability, talent, cunning, deception, intelligence and other qualities that give him a huge advantage. He also has the support of the biguns.
The littluns and biguns can compare to the upper and lower class. If you do not have support of the upper class, which means the literate, the knowlegeable and so on, then you cannot win a campaign.
It is all simple politics portrayed in this book, and Jack is the only one that seems to use politics to his advantage.
